NEWBORN HOSPITAL PHOTO SESSIONS

Newborn hospital sessions are usually done within the first 48 hours of life. Babies change so much in those first days so being able to capture those precious new hours of life is a gift that you will cherish for years to come.

What to expect?

Expect a top notch experience from start to finish from my Newborn Hospital sessions. I will guide you every step of the way whether this is your first baby or your 5th! I will make sure you know how to prepare, what to bring and how to have a successful hospital session for your family. These sessions are to help you document your baby’s first days of life by a caring, experienced and professional photographer. Sit back and let me capture the magic of these precious days.

When to schedule?

You can book your Newborn Hospital session as soon as you want! I recommend at least 1 to 2 months prior to the due date to get all of the necessary information to help prepare for the big day. Once you book your session you will start to get all of the information to guide you to a stress-free and successful newborn hospital session.

**We all know due dates are not exact, so you can put me on your “To Call” list so we can arrange for something in the next 48 hours after your baby is born.

What to bring/wear for the session?

All of this information will be in your welcome guide which you will receive once you book. I will even include a handy check list so you won’t forget anything.

For babies, I recommend swaddles, blankets, hats and bows. There are tons of swaddle options and I can offer suggestions on what will work best for photos based on what I’ve experienced. I will also take some pics in the hospital blanket so as to add to the story of their birth. I am great at swaddling babies so you don’t have to worry. I will help you prepare the baby for the shoot and you won’t have to do a thing!

For mom’s, I suggest bringing either a robe or some comfortable loungewear or pajamas. You are also welcome to stay in the hospital gown for those authentic photos of the day. The hospital room is a major part of documenting babies first days and I love showing real life.

For dad’s, I recommend wearing solid colors and staying away from reds/pinks. Babies are usually very pink and we don’t want to have any more color transferred on to them. White, black and neutral colors are best.

How long do the sessions last?

Typically between 45-60 minutes. I know how precious that time is those first few days, so I try and be quick. I have been photographing newborns in the hospitals for many years so I am an expert at getting those shots that you will cherish, while being able to create unique shots of you and your baby. But, or course we are on baby’s schedule, so if we need to stop and feed, burp, change a diaper we will do that. The goal is to make everyone as comfortable as possible especially your baby!

Hi! My name is Michelle Hayes and I have been a professional portrait photographer for 15 years!

I have been lovingly documenting newborns in the hospital for 10 years and I believe it is a magical session that I am honored to be a part of. I have worked at Scripps La Jolla Memorial hospital specifically for over 7 years so I am very familiar with the hospital and staff.

I am fully vaccinated against COVID19 as well as up to date on all of my other vaccinations.

I look forward to meeting you!
